Psychological First Aid

Methods and processes to assist people who have been impacted by a disaster. First response action to meet the immediate emotional & cognitive needs in tragic circumstances. Quick and informed support to those in disastrous events. The most favorable intervention approach for disaster survivors.

Psychological First Aid (PFA) is an evidence-informed modular approach to help individuals in the immediate aftermath of a disaster and terrorism to foster short and long term adaptive functioning. PFA can be provided by first responders and other disaster relief workers. PFA is not mental health therapy but is a “supportive intervention” delivered by both mental health professionals and disaster response workers who have completed an 8-hour PFA certification course.

PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID

Psychological First Aid (PFA) is an evidence-informed modular approach to help individuals in the immediate aftermath of a disaster and terrorism to foster short and long term adaptive functioning. PFA can be provided by first responders and other disaster relief workers. PFA is not mental health therapy but is a “supportive intervention” delivered by both mental health professionals and disaster response workers who have completed an 8-hour PFA certification course.  Crisis Intervention assists emergency services workers by providing a framework for understanding and coping with their own emotional reactions.
